To remove the blade, you must turn the blade’s retaining bolt to the left, or counterclockwise. If you want to prevent the blade from falling out, tip the mower on its side with the engine air cleaner facing up and block the blade with a piece of wood.

If you’re using a lawnmower with an automatic transmission, the transmission will need to be replaced. The transmission is located on the right side of the machine, under the driver’s seat.

Everything is explained in that video:

Are mower blade bolts left or right handed?

Most machines and equipment are threaded right-hand, meaning they turn clockwise when screwed in.

Do lawn mower blades have left handed threads?

No. According to the Cub Cadet website, the bolt holding the mower blade in place is threaded in the normal fashion. To loosen it, turn it right (clockwise) and left (counterclockwise). The bolts need to be tightened to 70-90 foot pounds, depending on the size of the blade.

Are Craftsman mower blade bolts reverse thread?

Like all Craftsman Mowers, the blade nuts are threaded standard. Rated 5 out of 5 by HomeDepotCustomer from This is a great mower for the money. I have had it for about a year now and it has done a good job. The only thing I would change would be to have a longer blade nut. It’s a little hard to get in and out.

Do lawn mower blades turn clockwise or counterclockwise?

Most lawn mower blades rotate in a clockwise direction (counter-clockwise when viewed from below), and as such have the cutting edge on the right side. If you are unsure of how your mower rotates, check the position of the discharge chute; if it is on the right side, the blade is rotating counter-clockwise.

If you have a lawnmower with a rotating blade, you will need to rotate the blades in the opposite direction to the direction they are facing. To do this, simply turn the handle to one side, and then turn it back the other way. The blades will then rotate back to their original position.

What size is the nut on a lawn mower blade?

The tractor cutting blade retainer nuts should be turned in one direction or the other. The retainer nut on most of our riding mower blades are a 5/8″ thread diameter. A 15/16″ wrench or socketstool is required in order to turn the nut. If you are using a different size nut, you may need to use a larger wrench.

How tight should you tighten a lawn mower blade?

For machines with give mechanisms, mower blades can be as tight as desired. The manufacturer has specified foot-pound Torque values for many mowers. 65 to 100 ft-lb is the acceptable level for zero turn and lawn tractors. Depending on the type of mower and the application, tightness for push and self propelled lawnmowers can be as high as 60 lbs-ft.

The following table shows the recommended torque for a typical lawnmower blade. The torque is given in pounds per square inch (psi) and is expressed as a percentage of the rated torque. This table is intended to be used for reference purposes only and should not be considered a substitute for the manufacturer’s specifications.
