Seed Sowing and Selective Weed Killers You can safely sow most seeds in your vegetable or flower patch a day after applying selective herbicides, such as sethoxydim, clethodim and bentazon, for grassy weeds. If the plants belong to the same species, these herbicides will not affect them.

For example, if you want to plant a tomato plant in a patch of grass, you will need to apply the herbicide at least two days before you plant the tomato. If you are using a weed killer to kill weeds in the garden, be sure to read the label carefully to make sure it is safe to use on your plants.

Seeds can be sown at any time during the growing season, but they will not germinate until the soil temperature is between 70 and 80 degrees F (21 and 25 degrees C). If your soil is too warm, the seeds will die before germination, and if it’s too cold, they won’t grow at all. To determine if your seeds are ready for sowing, place them in an airtight container and cover them with a plastic bag.

Can you put weed and feed on new grass?

It is recommended to wait until the new grass has been mowed at least four times before using a crabgrass preventer. If your grass is new to you, you may not have noticed the mowing yet. If you do notice it, the grass should be dead or dying by the time you are ready to mow it.

You can check for dead grass by looking at it with a magnifying glass. It should look dead, and you should not be able to see the roots or leaves. The grass may also have a yellowish tinge, which indicates that it has not been watered for a long period of time.

This is a good sign that you need to water your new lawn. If your lawn is old and has roots and leaves, then it may still be alive and growing.

Can I put down weed killer before seeding?

About 2 weeks before you plan to reseed your lawn, mix Roundup® Weed and Grass Killer Concentrate Plus in a tank sprayer and treat the entire lawn with the herbicide. If you do not have a lawn sprinkler system, you can use a garden hose to spray the lawn. You can also use an electric lawn mower to cut the grass.

How soon can I plant grass seed after using Weed B Gon?

10 days is the minimum waiting period for sowing grass seed.

How do I revive my lawn after weed killer?

You will have to do a physical renovation to the lawn if you accidentally damaged it with a weed killer. You’ll want to go ahead and remove the dead areas of lawn before more weeds move in to take its place. Then re-sod the patches or re-seed the areas, depending on the type of weed you’re dealing with.

Should I weed and feed or plant grass seed first?

Many of our clients ask us if they should plant grass seed or kill the weeds first. The answer is that the weeds should be killed first. Before any grass seeds can grow, the weeds and poor looking grass around the lawn should be killed. If you have a large lawn, you may want to consider using a lawn mower to cut down on weeds.

However, if your lawn is small and you don’t have the time to mow it every day, it may be a good idea to use a weed killer such as Roundup® Weed Killer. This herbicide will kill most weeds, but it will not kill all of them. If you are concerned about the safety of Roundup®, you can purchase it at your local garden center or online at www.RoundUp.com.

Should I overseed or weed and feed?

It is not recommended to overseed your lawn after applying weed and feed fertilizer. This type of lawn food can be used to prevent the growth of weeds. Wait at least 6 weeks before sowing your next crop of grass seed if you just put down weed and feed.

If you have a lawn with a lot of weeds, you may want to consider using a weed-killing herbicide such as Roundup® or 2,4-D® to kill the weeds. However, if you don’t have the time or money to buy a new weed killer, it may be a good idea to use a non-toxic, low-molecular-weight fertilizer that you can apply directly to the lawn.
