How long does it take for worms to start composting?

How many worms do I need to start a Wormery?
It really depends on the size of the wormery, for most average sized domestic wormeries we would advise to start with. 25kg, this is about 250 mixed sized worm, some adult but many juveniles. Worms can live for up to a year without food, but they will die if they are not fed regularly. Feeding worms once a week is the best way to maintain a healthy worm population.
