The inside of the compost bin can be lined with chicken wire using a staple gun. I always advise you line the inside of my compost bins with a piece of wire that is about 1/2 inch in diameter. This will help to keep your compost in place and prevent it from tipping over. If you don’t want to line your bin, just leave it as it is.

Everything is explained in that video:

Should a composter be in sun or shade?

You can put your compost pile in the sun or in the shade, but putting it in the sun will hasten the composting process. The sun increases the temperature and thebacteria and fungi work faster. In warm weather, your pile will dry out quicker. If you want to compost your own food scraps, you’ll need a compost bin. You can buy one at your local grocery store, or you can make one yourself.

Does a compost bin need a lid?

In most cases, a compost pile does not need a cover. If the pile is uncovered the whole time, the compost will break down into a great soil enhancer. Composting can be done with air, water, and a blend of brown and green manure. The best way to compost is to cover your pile with a layer of compost. Covering the compost with mulch is not a good idea, as it will slow down the rate of decomposition.

If you don’t have a pile, you can make your own compost by adding a small amount of manure to a bucket of water. Mix the manure and water together, cover the bucket and let it sit for a day or two. When you are ready to use the mixture, pour it into the bottom of your compost heap. You can also use it to fertilize your garden.

What do you put in the bottom of a compost bin?

Almost everyone advises putting down a layer of coarse material — corn cobs and husks, sticks, thick fibrous stalks from vegetables or tall flowers. The aeration at the bottom of the pot is improved by this layer.

If you have a large pot, you may want to add a small amount of water to the top of your pot to keep the water level from rising too high.

If you are using a pot with a removable bottom, such as a casserole dish, it is a good idea to put a few drops of dishwashing liquid on top to help prevent the liquid from dripping down the sides.

How many holes does a compost bin have?

A general rule of thumb is to make holes every 4 to 6 inches in a compost bin if it doesn’t already have a ventilation slot. If you plan to use the container for composting, you should add more holes to the base.

If you don’t plan on using the compost in your garden, you may want to consider adding a layer of mulch to the bottom of the container. This will help keep the soil from drying out and will also help to prevent mold from growing on your compost.

How often do you water compost?

You should water your compost pile every few days. In other words, once or twice per week. It is a good rule of thumb for most gardeners to wait before watering compost. It is better to water more frequently in a warm environment than it is in a dry one.

If you do not have a compost heap, you can make your own compost by adding a small amount of organic matter to a bucket of water and letting it sit for a day or two. You can also add a little bit of compost to your garden soil and let it soak for several days before adding it to the pile.

How often should compost be turned?

The compost pile is turned every 4-5 weeks by the average composter. If you are composting your own food scraps, you will need to turn your compost heap every 2-3 weeks, depending on the size of your pile and the amount of food you have in it. You can also turn it every other week if you don’t have a large enough pile.
